Drinking alcohol has long been known to cause a host of complications when abused over time. Organs like the liver and pancreas can become irreversibly damaged while an increase in the death of brain cells has been shown to increase over long periods of alcohol abuse. Another effect of drinking is hypertension or high blood pressure.

Alcohol acts as a blood thinner and a depressant. In small amounts, it has been shown to have some positive effects on the body, such as a blood clot deterrent. Most studies suggest no more than three drinks a day for men and no more than two for women. If you’re experiencing high blood pressure, consider cutting down on or quitting alcohol all together.
