Get More Out of Your Body! 10 Amazing Metabolism Boosters

Feeling lethargic and slow? There’s a good chance your metabolism is under performing. Often, a slow metabolis can be traced back to a condition known as hypothyroidism. When we’re feeling sluggish, it’s all too easy to just sit and watch a movie or go back to bed which creates a cycle of low energy output. With obesity on the rise – some studies suggest 75 percent of Americans will be overweight by 2020 – it’s important to be aware of the health complications which can arise when our metabolism slows. Weight gain is often the first thing to come to mind and this can lead to a myriad of other issues such as hypertension, diabetes and heart disease.

Metabolism can be broken down into two main categories: catabolism and anabolism. The first involves the breaking down of organic matter, storing it as energy through food and drink. The second is the building up of cell components such as vital proteins, expending catabolic energy previously stored in the body. If either of these two parts suffers, your metabolism suffers. Here are some of the better ways to get the most out of your metabolism.

Eat More Food

It might sound crazy but increasing your food intake is very important to keep your metabolism pumping. The only way for your body to create the nucleic acids and proteins needed for healthy cell building, it needs energy which can only be provided through food and beverage. Currently, the USDA recommends men get about 2,640 calories a day, while women should be aiming for 1,785 calories a day.

The important thing to remember is that all foods are not created equal. Sticking with a healthy diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, vegetables and dark, leafy greens will give your body all the energy it needs without overloading it with sugar. If you don’t know where to start, talk to a nutrition specialist to help create a meal plan or look online for examples of a healthy, daily diet.
