Yeast Infections: Natural Prevention and Remedies

Balance Your Hormones

yeast infection

A little-known fact is that yeast infections can actually cause mood swings and depression. If the infection moves into the intestinal tract (remember, candidiasis can take place in the mouth and stomach as well as the vagina) yeast can coat the intestinal lining, making it difficult for the body to absorb serotonin. Without adequate levels of serotonin, patients can begin to experience mild mood swings. While the reasons remain unknown, it seems that estrogen can help different strains of candida flourish. Women taking medications, supplements or birth control are at a greater risk of experiencing some form of yeast infection.

Balancing your hormones takes some time and patience and may require testing to know what it is you’re lacking or have too much of. A healthy diet, plenty of sleep and a good dose of exercise are all going to work wonders for getting you on the right track. As far as supplements go, magnesium, vitamin D, gelatin or collagen and omega-3 fatty acids are all great sources of nutrients. Progesterone cream can be used to help balance out high levels of estrogen as the two tend to counteract one another. If you’re pregnant or unsure of what’s right for you, speak to a natural health specialist before taking supplements.
