Irritable Bladder Syndrome

bladder fibromyalgia

Irritable bladder syndrome affects millions of people, regardless of age, race or gender. Women, however, are even more likely to experience some type of incontinence in their lives. Childbirth and menopause can both cause weakening of the pelvic floor and loss of bladder control. Though the reason remains unclear, women living with fibromyalgia are even more likely to suffer from irritable bladder syndrome. Symptoms such as bladder pain, increased urgency and frequency of urination all point to this condition.

One in five women with FM will experience bladder pain among other symptoms associated with irritable bladder syndrome. Thankfully, a ratings tool has been developed specifically to get an idea of how severe different cases of irritable bowel syndrome are. It’s called the Fibromyalgia Bladder Index and it helps doctors rule zone in on symptoms caused by fibromyalgia instead of say, a urinary tract infection.
