In most instances losing weight would be a reason to celebrate, but if the weight loss comes from seemingly no change in your day to day routine/diet; and if it occurs quickly, it could be evidence of high blood sugar levels.

Rapid weight loss occurs because the insulin hormone is not getting glucose into the cells, where its used for energy.  Glycogen is your body’s main fuel source; if your body determines that glycogen levels are depleted it’s going to switch to another source – your muscle. Your body will begin breaking down protein to use as its alternative fuel.

In addition to this; the kidneys are working hard to expel excess sugar. This results in a loss of sugar (calories) which will exacerbate the weight loss.

A weight loss of 10-20 lbs over a 2-3 month period should be taken seriously as it could be a symptom of type 1 diabetes.
