Is Your Liver Damaged? 10 Symptoms Of Liver Disease
2. Pain in Abdomen and Swelling

A condition known as ascites could be the reason you may notice pain or swelling in your abdomen. The easiest way to think about ascites is that it is a build up of fluid in your peritoneal cavity, also known as your abdomen. There are two main events which take place in your body to create ascites: first, portal hypertension or an increase in the vein system carrying blood from your intestines, spleen and stomach to the liver and second, a lack of albumin, a protein which helps maintain blood pressure.
An unhealthy liver is both: a) unable to process the amount of blood required to avoid portal hypertension and b) can’t produce enough albumin to keep a proper blood volume. If you notice prolonged swelling or discomfort around your abdomen, get in to see a doctor as soon as you can.
