Is Your Liver Damaged? 10 Symptoms Of Liver Disease

9. A Paler Shade of Stool

liver disease

A quick bit of unpleasant biology: when your body breaks down food, it creates feces and this is what we call your stool. To aid in the absorption of healthy fats, your liver releases bile salts which give your stool it’s most common color, brown. If you notice your stool has become pale or clay colored, it is an indicator you may have some form of liver disease.

When the liver is damaged, bile output decreases which means less bile salts resulting in pale stool. Another cause could be a blockage of your biliary system, which consists of your liver, pancreas and gallbladder. There are many reasons your stool could change colour such as diet or medication but if it occurs regularly, you should see your doctor about possible liver disease.
