Thyroid Issues

lupus

The thyroid gland is in charge of regulating your metabolism and as such can cause a slew of complications when it is compromised. Autoimmune issues regarding the thyroid are fairly common in lupus patients; in some cases, the thyroid goes into overdrive and in others, it becomes sluggish and reticent. Both scenarios create a list of unique symptoms to look out for and require unique treatments.

An underactive thyroid is known as hypothyroidism and can cause such things as weight gain, mood swings, depression and dryness of hair and skin. On the other end of the spectrum, an overactive thyroid condition called hyperthyroidism may be responsible for weight loss, tremors, intolerance to heat and can lead to osteoporosis; a thinning of the bone.
