Dry Mouth and Eyes
About 10 percent of patients will suffer from a chronic dry mouth and eyes. A condition known as Sjogren’s syndrome is an autoimmune disorder which disrupts or disables tear ducts and saliva glands from producing moisture. Patients dealing with this condition often describe their eyes as feeling gritty, especially in the morning.
If you’re noticing a continued sensation of dryness; either of the mouth or eyes, check in with a doctor as soon as you can. Sjogren’s syndrome is at best uncomfortable and at worst, can lead to scarring of your tear glands. Often times, doctors prescribe specialized eye drops or lozenges for localized dryness. Alternatively, there are certain medications which can help promote glandular moisture production.
