Night sweats are classically linked to Tuberculosis (TB), an infection generally targeting the lungs. Night sweats in relation to TB is believed to be related to your immune system. One of the ways your immune system fights off infections is by releasing fever inducing chemicals to flush out the harmful pathogens.

Sometimes, a part of your brain called the hypothalamus will temporarily set your internal thermometer at a higher temperature. When your body begins the cooling process, sweating will occur. At the same time, having all these infection-fighting cells coursing through your body is known to cause a host of side effects, with night sweats being one of them. If left untreated, Tuberculosis has about a 50 percent chance of being fatal.
