11. Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease

This neurological disease is a fatal form of dementia caused by the growth of abnormal proteins in the brain called prions CJD most commonly appears in the elderly, though in some cases gene mutation or surgery involving the transfer of human tissue have led to this condition. It can take years for symptoms to show after acquiring CJD but once they do, the disease quickly progresses.

While there is no treatment for CJD, some of its symptoms such as twitching can be managed. Other symptoms to look for are difficulty swallowing, mood swings, problems with vision and stiffness. Life expectancy for CJD patient’s once symptoms have shown is between six to 14 months.
