Lung cancer claims roughly 160,000 lives every year. While there are several forms of lung cancers and tumors, the two most common are small cell and non-small cell lung cancer. While both of these cancers form inside the lung and share common symptoms, that is where the similarities end. The biggest and more serious difference between these two cancers is how they grow and spread: small cell cancer is extremely aggressive and tends to spread very quickly while non-small cell cancer is slower moving and easier to catch. Luckily, non-small cell cancer is far more common, making up about 85 percent of all lung cancers.

The symptoms for both forms of lung cancer are similar: persistent coughing, chest pain, shortness of breath and bloody mucus are all warning signs of lung cancer.
